Salem Farmers Market

First off, sorry about not posting in a really long time.  Life has been busy.

I just learned that Salem will finally be getting a Farmers Market starting June 2009 and through October.  They couldn’t have picked a better location than Derby Square.  Here’s a link with more information:

American Planning Association (APA) designates Salem as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods in America

http://www.planning.org/greatplaces/neighborhoods/2008/downtownsalem.htm

I started this blog because I believed (and continue to do so) that Salem is one of the best neighborhoods in the country.  The goal of this blog is to promote Salem’s unique environment for residents who live in the Downtown area.  Of course, my opinion is my opinion so I try and provide information on Downtown Salem that I think others may find interesting.  I was very pleased to read that the American Planning Association (APA) agree with my view.  They have designated Salem as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods in America.  Wow!

Now I travel a fair amount through work, and I get to see towns and cities across the US.  Some are less appealing than others.  Of course, I have not seen as much of the US as I would like, but I have lived in Salem for more than two years now, and Salem has changed right in front of my eyes.  Many people have visited me and enjoyed what I enjoy in this awesome town.  I’ve heard from them that since visiting Salem, they have considered moving here and living in the Downtown area.  I know exactly what they mean.  That is why I moved here.

Wonders of Winter Island

A round-trip walk from the Salem Commuter station to Winter Island is about 7 miles. I know this because I did the walk today. Winter island is beautiful even on a somewhat gloomy day. Here are a few pictures that I took. There is not a whole lot to do there in terms of planned activities, but plenty to do if you want to trek around the many windy paths that expose breathtaking views of the ocean. Great place to go with a bike, hiking shoes, or a fishing rod.
